Our Story & Mission

The voice of small and medium
business in New Zealand since 1976

Founded in 1976, the Accountants and Tax Agents Institute of New Zealand (ATAINZ) has spent almost five decades championing New Zealand's small and medium enterprises.

Today we represent more than 470 members nationwide, all committed to being trusted tax and business advisors in their communities.

Our members provide accounting, tax advice, tax agency work, business mentoring, valuations, reviews and company incorporations, to clients ranging from sole traders and partnerships to companies, trusts, farmers and investors.

Strength in
numbers

As a collective, our members build deeper tax and business expertise than any one practitioner could alone, and pass that strength on to their clients.

Many of our members run small-to-medium practices themselves, giving ATAINZ a strong understanding of the needs of both our members and the small businesses they support.

ATAINZ is genuinely member-focused and responsive to change, with decisions shaped by member feedback and the evolving needs of accounting professionals and their SME clients.
